Social Network Saves Life.

Kawasaki Disease

Postings by Deborah Copaken Kogan of her 4 year old son, while being checked for strep throat, caused a flurry of concerned comments, then as his condition got worse the author posted more pictures, any help would be good, as the still mystery illness gripped her son threateningly.

Luckily her postings on Facebook brought help, as a friend called saying "I hope you'll excuse me for butting in, but you have to get to the hospital. Now! My son Max had had the exact same symptoms, and was hospitalized for Kawasaki disease, a rare and sometimes fatal auto-immune disorder that attacks the coronary arteries surrounding the heart, the longer you wait, the worse the damage."

Another auto immune disease where the body perceives an attack and inevitably damages it's self.
Kawasaki disease can be fatal, if unchecked it causes inflammation in the arteries though out the body, in particularly the danger lies in the effect it has the arteries around the heart. It starts with a high fever, then continues into several other stages that can include large pealing chunks of skin, joint pain, diarrhea, bloodshot eyes, the list goes on.

The moral of the story being, if you or your loved ones, have strange symptoms that mystify doctors, post it on your social network. May be your friends have seen it before and they can save you a lot of time and heartache, with suggestions as to what it could be. Then you can take that information to the doctors.

Last year, the American Medical Association adopted social media policy guidelines, which encourage doctors to do things like take advantage of privacy settings and maintain the "appropriate" boundaries of the patient-physician relationship on the web.

Facebook, Google and MySpace

So the big announcement from Facebook, did have something to do with Skype but maybe not in the way it was rumored. Facebook is improving it's chat feature, according to Mark Zuckerberg who is the founder of Facebook, there are new chat features, extra incentives that will tell you if a friend online to chat to.

The exciting part is that now, after installing a new app video chat will be available, if you have a web cam. That is the intergration with Skype part, do you want to be visual to your Facebook friends? I can imagine that some people would like to video chat with each other, on the other hand some with whom text chat will be the best option.

Google is trying to enter the social network arena, as it stands right now Google is so far behind it would be like, Facebook starting a search engine. Hay they may be able to do it, Google's chat feature is designed to allow up to 9 friends to chat at the same time. Businesses could benefit from that, more people working at home perhaps, saving the environment.

Justin Timberlake, finding his way back into the news, but not for singing this time, he is going to be aiding the ailing MySpace website, bring it's sexy back. He has bought himself a stake in the company, having plans to revitalize it, this is the go to social network for talented musicians and bands. Johnny Wright the long time manager of Justin's says, a talent show or, another way of showing off new developing artists will be the core of the revamp.
